UT’s Haslam College of Business Gains in U.S. News Undergrad Rankings

September 18, 2023

The Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been named a top 25 public business school. In the 2024 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Undergraduate Business Programs rankings, the college moved up one spot to No. 25 among public universities while the Department of Supply Chain Management held the No. 3 public spot for a third consecutive year.

The Department of Accounting and Information Management rose three spots to No. 23 among publics and 11 spots nationally to No. 46, while the Department of Business Analysis and Statistics came in at No. 15 among publics. Haslam stands at No. 38 nationally. The university rose two spots to No. 51 among public institutions. In addition, UT is ranked No. 51 among best public colleges for veterans.

Lane Morris, associate dean of undergraduate studies and student affairs and John W. Fisher Professor of Innovative Learning, said the rankings show that the college continues to advance its mission of readying students to hit the ground running on day one in the business world.

“The Haslam College of Business strives to provide a rigorous and relevant education to students who are prepared to apply themselves to the curricular and co-curricular opportunities presented to them here,” Morris said. “Faculty who are leaders in their fields guide these students through curricula designed to make them business leaders in their own rights. We are elated that the accounting and information management and supply chain management departments continue to gain recognition as the world-class programs we know them to be.”

Stephen L. Mangum, Haslam’s dean and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair, called the rankings a testament to the college faculty and staff’s hard work in creating a challenging and rewarding academic experience with meaningful co-curricular growth opportunities for students to engage in.

“Students who choose Haslam immerse themselves in a first-rate business learning environment and take advantage of multiple experiential learning opportunities,” Mangum said. “The Haslam College of Business is always working to improve the undergraduate academic experience, and these rankings are a reflection of those efforts.”

The 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings added faculty research citations and first-generation student graduation rates to their metrics and dropped alumni giving as a factor. Outcomes such as retention and graduation rates were given higher weight than in the past, with all outcome-based criteria accounting for more than half of the total rank. Other elements considered included peer assessments, graduate earnings and more.
